A failed selfie check at the pokies can stop registration or delay a withdrawal, but it does not always mean you have done anything wrong. Poor lighting, camera permissions, mismatched details and document problems are common causes. If you are comparing reports about the pokies, thepokies net may appear in searches, but check the address carefully. This guide explains practical troubleshooting steps and the safety issues Australian players should consider before sending identity documents.
Why the pokies selfie check can fail
Identity checks compare your face with a photograph on an identity document. The system may also check whether the document appears genuine and whether your personal details match the account. A failure can happen during the pokies registration or later, when the operator reviews a withdrawal.
Common camera and image problems
Low light, glare, shadows, a dirty lens or an unstable internet connection can make the image unusable. Keep your whole face inside the frame, remove sunglasses and hats, and avoid beauty filters. Use the main camera where possible, rather than a damaged or low-resolution front camera.
Details that do not match your account
The name, date of birth, phone number and other details on an account should be accurate and consistent with the submitted document. Even a shortened first name or an old address can trigger a manual review. The site may request proof at any time, including before a payout.
Check your document before uploading
Use a current, readable document with all corners visible. Do not crop out edges, cover information or upload a screenshot when the system asks for a camera image. If your document has expired or the details differ from your account, contact support before making repeated attempts.
| Possible issue | What to check | Safer response |
|---|---|---|
| Face not recognised | Lighting, focus and framing | Retake the image in even daylight |
| Document rejected | Expiry date and visible edges | Use a valid, undamaged document |
| Details mismatch | Name and date of birth | Ask support to clarify the required correction |
| Upload will not start | Browser permissions and connection | Allow camera access and try a stable connection |
How to retry the verification safely
Start with one careful attempt instead of sending many blurred images. Use a private device, update the browser and grant camera permission only to the page you are using. The pokies is described as browser-based, so an official app is not required. Be cautious with searches for a the pokies apk, because unofficial downloads can expose passwords or personal data.
A simple troubleshooting sequence
Close other camera apps, clean the lens and place your face in front of a plain background. Keep the phone still while the image is captured. If the page repeatedly fails, record the time and exact error message, then stop rather than submitting documents through an unfamiliar mirror.
- Confirm that you are on the correct current website address.
- Check the account details against your identity document.
- Allow camera access and complete one clear capture.
- Save the error message without sharing unnecessary personal data.
- Contact support through the site and request the approved next step.
What to ask support after a failed check
Support may explain whether the problem is technical, caused by a mismatch or being sent for manual review. The pokies advertises 24/7 live chat and email assistance, although response times and outcomes can vary. Use the pokies live chat only through the verified site, and never send a password, recovery code or full card number.
| Question to ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which document types are accepted? | Prevents unsuitable uploads |
| Is manual verification available? | Clarifies the alternative to repeated selfies |
| Are withdrawals paused during review? | Sets realistic expectations |
| How will documents be submitted securely? | Reduces the risk of using a fake contact channel |
Important safety and legal considerations for Australian players
A selfie request does not prove that a gambling service is licensed or safe. The Pokies has no Australian licence, and ACMA issued a formal warning to its operator in September 2025. ACMA has also blocked 56 related domains as at 18 September 2026. Complaints about frozen accounts, repeated verification and delayed withdrawals mean you should treat any request for sensitive documents carefully. A review of online pokies opinions may provide context, but it is not proof of resolution or legitimacy.
When to stop trying and protect your information
Stop if a page asks for documents through a social-media message, an unknown email address or an unofficial APK. Do not bypass an Australian internet block or create another account to avoid verification. Keep copies of correspondence, watch your bank account and contact your bank promptly if you suspect misuse. BetStop does not cover illegal offshore casinos; confidential help is available through the National Gambling Helpline on 1800 858 858.
Conclusion
A failed selfie check is often caused by image quality, camera permissions or inconsistent account details. One careful retry and a verified support channel may resolve a technical problem. Yet Australian players should also weigh the operator’s offshore status, blocking history and reported withdrawal disputes before sharing identity documents or depositing further funds. If the process remains unclear, protecting your information and stepping away is the safer decision.
Frequently Asked Questions
These answers cover practical points that can help you decide what to do next without taking unnecessary risks.
Can I withdraw while the selfie check is pending?
Do not assume that you can. The operator’s terms may allow identity checks before payout, and withdrawals can be held during review. Ask support whether the request is paused, what evidence is required and how documents should be submitted securely.
Should I send my selfie by email?
Only use an email channel that you independently confirmed through the verified website. Never reply to an unexpected message with identity documents. If the address, domain or instructions look unusual, stop and seek advice from your bank or a trusted support service.
Does the pokies have an official mobile app?
The available information describes the pokies as a browser-only service and does not confirm a native app or APK. Avoid downloading files from third-party pages. An unofficial app may capture login details, payment information or identity documents.
What if my account is closed after verification?
Keep the closure message, transaction records and all support replies. Do not open a second account or repeatedly upload documents. Ask for the reason and the formal complaint process, then consider speaking with your bank if money or personal information may be at risk.
